You may have noticed the conspicuous lack of posts as of late.  I've been really preoccupied with other things and I've decided to make this blogger thing a super low priority.  Which I know should go without saying, but you'd be surprised at how much time blogging can burn (whether you're posting to your own or reading others).  It's a bit like tv in that sense...it'll zap your time like there's no tomorrow and leave you wondering where it all went.

It's 2:36am and I should be in bed!  I couldn't sleep though...so I got up to jot down some ideas and send some emails.

I need a day off.  I haven't had one since Monday!  :-)

Well, another missed opportunity for the cabana.  We've got a greeting card feature on the site (who doesn't now, right??)...and we just didn't have the time to setup a Valentine's section.  There are so many things I'd like to do with that site...I know it's more of a hobby than anything...but still...it's hard to be patient with our slow progress on the available feature set.  I am rewriting a lot of the core code, making it a lot more extensible...if you're a techie and care (which is probably not the case), I'm applying some basic mvc (model view controller) principles to the cabana framework.  The problem is that it takes too much time to introduce a new feature to the site.  So I'm trying to decouple the view from the backend logic...which should (theoretically) make it much easier to build new features for the site...since I shouldn't have to worry about the low level persistence junk.  If things go right, I'll be able to create a db table and an html template and viola!...the feature will be done...no more sql, db connectivity, or brainless iteration code.

So it's not very fun being away from your wife on Valentine's day.  Happy Valentine's day Meg!

It's a little chilly out here. It doesn't seem as cold though. I guess the humidity [or lack of] works both ways. It doesn't feel as hot when it's hot and it doesn't feel as cold when it's cold. It's strange being in Silicon Valley...there's so much happening around here technologically...I just wish I was more of a player in it all. I almost feel like a little kid in his room, looking out the window at all the other kids that are playing in the street. And I so want to be out there with them.

Off to California.  I'll be in Mountain View until Friday.

I'm musing over the fate of this page.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.  There's only so much time in a day and you have to be careful how you slice it.  When you take on too many projects, the quality of each one suffers and you end up getting nowhere.  This page isn't anywhere close to where I want it and neither is my other web project, the cabana.  It might be time to really focus.  I could maintain this page in its current state pretty easily, but having a half baked site is going to bother the perfectionist in me.  And blogging can almost be like tv--it'll zap your time like there's no tomorrow.  You sit down for 5 minutes to type a quick blurb and an hour later you're still staring at the screen...trying to figure out whether you wanted to use passive voice in that last sentence...or whether that comma should be in there...or whether you should bold that word for emphasis...or whatever.  And all you're doing is blabbing about what you had for dinner that night.  Oh well...this is certainly one of the more trivial decisions in life.  And it's 2:30am so I probably shouldn't be musing about anything.  I think I'm gonna hit the sack.

Hacked off my hair today.  Not that it was all that long really.  I actually think long hair matches my personality better, but it never looked quite how I wanted it to...and I'm tired of messing with it for now.  Here's a couple of before and afters...

If you haven't looked at it, check out my new front page.  It works best in Internet Explorer.  I'm actually bored with the design of this site already.  I've got a couple ideas to redo it, but there are many other higher priorities on the list right now.  Oh well.

Wow!  What a fantastic article!  It doesn't have much advice, but I agree with it wholeheartedly.  I think the idea of moderation can be applied to much more than just economics, too!  Not everything is so black and white...

Today is absolutely one of those days where I'd like to throw my computer out a window!  Have you ever seen the movie Office Space?  Remember that part where those guys finally got fed up with that printer that wouldn't work right, so they took it out to an empty field and started kicking the heck out of it?  Laugh...I would so love to do that right now.

Cars running on water??  I always laugh when I hear that (like yeah, right), but these guys seem to be doing that.  Pretty cool.

Not much in the mood for bloggin right now, but I figured I'd throw up a few comments.  Puerto Rico was great!  Put up most of the pictures.  And staying true to my resolutions, I've finished another book in my reading list.
