Saturday Ramblings
Well, once again I've gone quite awhile w/out posting anything. I just never really seem to have the time.
I'm in the middle of a home improvement project -- the laundry room. It's just about done. Today, Meg and I are hanging cabinets. So after she puts the little one down for the night, we'll finish up. One of the walls is really bowed pretty badly so it's going to be pretty tricky to get them lined up. Nothing is ever easy.
On other fronts, I'm getting really close to launching my hosting business, The Skinny Mouse, Inc. It's probably been close to 2 years now in development. Just a huge amount of stuff to learn and do. It's a side of the technical world that I wasn't all that familiar with -- things like linux administration, DNS/Bind configuration, etc. But I'm really happy w/ how things are unfolding. Mark (http://www.adoptionblog.com) and I also decided that we didn't like any of the "out of the box" control panels that come with any of the hosting software packages. So that tacked on a huge amount of dev time building custom stuff. We own the entire customer experience -- and that's just how we wanted it. We developed everything the customer sees.
Once the hosting biz is launched, we'll start rolling in content management tools. And again, we'll probably build many of them. If we use anything off the shelf (or open source), chances are we'll end up doing a whole lot of work on the thing to get it how we want it.
